It's nice to meet you.
My name is Katey ッ

A little bit about me -

A lifelong learner and problem solver, I have a knack for breaking things down and building them back up. I excel at bringing clarity to ambiguous projects and prioritize building smart systems that support design success.

In my 6+ years of design experience, I've worn many hats. I've worked as an individual contributor creating design deliverables for end-to-end product experiences from research plans to functional prototypes. I've led a team of talented designers and researchers focusing on design operations and growth. Most recently, I've been consulting with brands and partnering to provide design expertise at startups.

My process -

My process is simple - start big and bold, listen and learn from people often, iterate, iterate, iterate, and deliver designs that tie back to clearly defined goals.

Naturally optimistic and passionate about creating human connections, I strive to have a positive impact on people and products with my work. I'm constantly inspired by what can get done with a team of thinkers. The meaning of my name is pure and light-hearted which I feel like perfectly embodies my spirit.

To sum it up -

I don't take myself too seriously, am not afraid to ask thoughtful questions, and work extremely hard. I seek ambitious teams and projects that have a clear mission. I want to work where curiosity is celebrated.

When I'm not working you can find me...

Hanging with my cat Finn

I'm a newish cat owner and admit I'm definitely obsessed with my big orange tabby. Finn has the fluffiest tail and looks like a real life version of Puss and Boots. He's simply the best.

Exploring the PNW

I enjoy getting outside, exploring my beautiful backyard - the PNW, and catching a sunrise or sunset. Above is a picture from summiting Mt. St. Helens a couple years back! We lucked out and got a clear day.

Renovating my 1950s home

I'm a part-time realtor and full-time home renovator. Most weekends you'll find me tinkering on a house project or searching for a real estate investment opportunity.

Cheering on my favorite teams

Growing up I played competitive soccer for 15 years so sports have always been important to me. Now, I like to cheer on the Timbers, Blazers, 49ers, and Ducks.

Kinds words from talented colleagues.

She is truly a unicorn.

Katey and I worked together on the Experience Design team at Ansira. She is truly a unicorn; a highly skilled director, interviewer, researcher, and visual designer. Talent and maturity beyond her years, Katey is an advocate for humans: creating well-designed, delightful experiences.

-Leslie Lecroy, Art Director at Apple

Perfect blend of systems-thinking and creativity.

Together we collaborated on several research and design projects ranging from product development to brand experiences. Katey is the perfect blend of systems-thinking and creativity. She is not only a brilliant strategist and beautiful writer but her ability to champion the “big picture vision,” while also paying keen attention to detail makes her the perfect creative lead for projects of any scale.

-Alyzeh Rizvi, Founder of Peepal People

Collaborative player-coach design leader.

One of the most talented, collaborative player-coach design leaders I have had the pleasure to work with. Katey facilitates an amazing amount of focus across teams with a seemingly effortless and positive attitude. She is a master of delivering an amazing point of view and is always looking to shape her teams for success as well. She is one of those people that makes everyone smarter.
